About the Position:

As the Senior Director, Project Development, you will manage the implementation of the vision and strategy for the development team as well as work in the day-to-day progress of the development pipeline.

You are driven to get things done, thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a positive response to pressure, constantly collaborating with internal and external parties. You will collaborate and manage the day to day of all development team leads within the organization.

You take initiative to conduct market intelligence and research when moving into new markets and areas in the US and support innovative and creative ways of developing utility-scale projects.

Responsible for:

  • Lead, manage, and retain a high-performing team of project developers, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and effectiveness.
  • Be accountable for defining and implementing the vision and processes for project development.
  • Stay actively engaged in the day-to-day execution of project development, working closely with internal teams to remove obstacles and drive progress.
  • Serve as a trusted leader, ensuring team alignment with company goals and project milestones.
  • Work with internal teams, such as permitting, land acquisition, and origination, to ensure smooth progress through project development phases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to secure interconnection, obtain permits, and address regulatory requirements.
  • Work with other internal and external teams and colleagues in the origination, development, construction, and asset management of projects.
  • Align project development with financial objectives, supporting power offtake agreements, financial modeling, and risk assessment processes.
  • Participate in bidding, evaluation, and procurement of certain services and contractors (environmental, permitting, engineering, procurement, construction).
  • Assist or lead, as applicable, any contract review, negotiation, and management of contracts.
  • Monitor local and federal renewable energy policy development.
  • Assist power origination and transactions processes with supporting development and analytical tasks.
  • Assist in construction management related tasks as applicable, including review of construction documents (including supply contracts) for completeness and compliance with utility interconnect agreements, power purchase agreements, land lease agreements, environmental permits, and good industry practices.
  • Provide regular progress and budget reporting related to projects, including written and oral status updates as required to various stakeholders.
  • Participate in regular team meetings over phone, video conference or in person.
  • Promote incident and injury free workplace through strict adherence to health and safety.

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in a business or technical discipline or equivalent experience in a related field.
    • Must have experience leading and actively participating in the full lifecycle of a utility-scale wind, solar, or energy storage project, from origination through execution.
    • A least 8+ years utility-scale renewable energy industry development experience across technologies, including early-stage development, origination, permitting, interconnection, engineering, procurement, construction, due diligence and/or financial analysis.
    • Experience with CAISO, MISO, ERCOT markets is strongly preferred.
    • Keen understanding of supply and demand, policy/regulation, markets, and financial metrics that drive successful project development.
    • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
    • Organized, diligent, and able to track and manage multiple streams of information on an ongoing basis.
    • Ownership of workflows to meet deadlines and budgets.
    • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
    • Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing at all organizational levels.
    • Flexible and cooperative with a well-developed team spirit.
    • Current driver’s license and ability to travel is required. Maintain legally required insurance.
    • Excellent computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and the ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programs.

    The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in San Diego, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
